When a cold or flu starts to take hold, keep these in mind…
 
Cinnamon
A traditional warming spice, Cinnamon is ideal cold or flu relief with its anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties. It also assists blood glucose balance, prevents abnormal blood clotting and its scent is believed to boost brain function 

Ginger
A warming aromatic which has immune boosting actions.  Ginger induces healthy sweating and is beneficial for colds and flus. Its anti-inflammatory properties aid digestion and can bring relief from g.i.t disturbances such as flatulence, spasms and nausea.  It is also great for improving circulation and assisting with cold hands and feet. 

Chilli
If you can handle the heat, chilli assists stimulation of secretions that help remove mucus and congestion from the lungs and nose and may reduce pain.  It is also another good remedy for colds hands and feet. 

Garlic
A true super food and basic staple to most meals.  Garlic is anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, anti-microbial and anti-viral. 

Onion
Has an extremely high polyphenol content which is one of the largest categories of nutrients in plants. Similar to Chili cutting one up will certainly clear the sinuses however, apart from being anti-inflammatory its high levels of sulphur containing compounds help prevent blood clotting, lower cholesterol and improve cell membrane function in red blood cells. A little tip is to not over peel too much of the out layer of an onion as that is where the highest concentrations of quercetin and anthocyanins are found.  These are important anti-inflammatory compounds 

Green leafy vegetables
Packed full of crucial anti-oxidants, phytochemicals, fibre, vitamins and minerals including iron, folic acid, vitamin C, magnesium and potassium, Research suggests that green veggies can play a part in helping prevent cardiovascular disease, diabetes and potentially cancer! 
 
Parsley
Used predominantly as a garnish people may not know that parsley is an excellent source of vitamin C, K and a modest amount of Beta-carotene. It also contains volatile oils thought to be protective against carcinogens (toxins in our environment) and contains phytochemicals with high anti-oxidant properties. You can also use it to freshen your mouth to prevent unwanted garlic or onion breath!
